This week is turning into a drudge. W e’re still WFH officially until July 6th and likely longer but I’m on-call this week which means I can’t walk away from my phone for more than a few minutes and every time the damn thing goes bring I have to look at it. This is my second on-call during the pandemic and the first was not good for my mental health and I doubt this one will be either...
On other news I paid off my sportwagen last week!
She loves gravel roads, but could use some more ground clearance...
I’ve had it for 18 months and about 25k miles, monthly driven has plummeted this year though. I’ve only put one tank of gas in it since mid-march, it does get 500 miles per tank but still that’s a long time between fillups!
I love the car and now that it’s paid off I have to keep stopping myself from saying ‘well now that there’s some extra room in the budget how about I buy one of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ?’ I imagine this is a common problem here though...
The Sportwagen still has 6 months left on the CPO warranty - nothing has required any attention yet (knock on wood). I do have some postponed mods I plan on doing here in the next couple weeks and a few others I’m thinking about (head unit upgrade) but this car is both a great road trip beast and I love it for around town and home depot trips. I will definitely try to keep it for several more years.
On job hunting related news my call last week went great, they’re going to interview a few more candidates the next couple weeks with me maybe needing to do another interview or two. The boss said he hopes to have a decision by mid-June but that date seems optimistic as they gave me a similar goal last time and it took them 8 weeks to make a decision. The job would require relocation to the SF Bay area but they’re very flexible on that right now saying I could take a year to move, but he also mentioned that right now is the best time in years to get a deal on housing. I’m still optimistic about my chances and very excited about the opportunity - thanks for all the support for the last call Oppo - you guys and gals are awesome! I’ll let everyone know how it progresses from here.

If you Bay Area, let’s lunch.
Our hourly folding rate has sagged a bit in recent days; I’m guessing because heat.

With summer essentially here in St Louis my office computer only folds when it’s still cool overnight which will stop altogether soon. So I’m running at half power for the forseeable future, but that should still be 1 oppoflop a day.
Without a doubt lets get together - this has been a plan for ~6 months now so it will happen just the timing hasn’t fallen together yet. If this job works out I’ll be working in Fremont so living in the east bay area somewhere.

Anyone going permanent WFH is flooding out of the cities right now, so no surprises on housing being cheaper than usual. However, it’s likely a long-term trend. Houses are being bid up and selling fast where I live (outer suburb/exurb of the Seattle metro ) and the buyers have been from Seattle itself or the Bay Area. Any couples doing WFH will want at least 3-bedroom houses to have a couple offices and I couldn’t imagine 1-bedroom anything is selling much anywhere. We have a 4-bedroom and will probably need a bigger house if we have another baby, as this place is barely big enough now for the three of us with my wife and I on permanent and long-term W FH. Her company is in the process of divesting in all physical office space, since they have realized that productivity is the same or better at this point.

It has definitely been a huge shift in mentality. I don’t think long term it’ll hold in a lot of industries though. I know my current organization wants us back in the office when it’s safe to do to (no rush though).
We have a big 3 bedroom house now for my wife and myself and it’s been nice to have separate spaces to work. It’s a tempting idea to take a bigger paying job and move way out but we live somewhere cheap as hell now and wanting to make the change to a better environment so willing to pay for it (in rent).

Thanks! It’s pretty sweet to be payment free on it. Still owe on my wife’s RAV4, but it cost twice what mine did and we haven’t owned it 2 years yet. For some reason being payment free on it makes me feel more willing to mod it, not sure why as it’s not worth any less now.
For now I’ll just put the extra few hundred a month I was paying for it on the wife’s car while I continue to drool over other things I shouldn’t buy...
